PZU Zdrowie acquires Falck medical centers

PZU Zdrowie has signed an agreement to acquire 100% shares in Falck Medical Centers and NZOZ Starówka.

Thus, the number of medical facilities in PZU Zdrowie network will increase from 65 to 97 in the near future. It will be the largest acquisition of the Polish medical operator. The transaction is subject to customary merger control approvals.

The transaction will cover 32 ambulatory centers in Falck outpatient segment, excluding Falck’s medical emergency services. Falck will keep providing ambulances and patient transport services in Poland through the company Falck Medycyna. The acquired medical facilities are located in 14 cities throughout Poland, including Warszawa, Kraków, Gdańsk, Katowice, Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Słupsk and Ustka. The company employs over 1,100 professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives and administrative staff. Among the acquired clinics are multi-specialized medical centers located in large cities, on-site clinics and NZOZ Starówka network with medical care in smaller towns around Warsaw.

The clinics are acquired from the Danish based Falck Group, which is a leading international provider of ambulance and healthcare services and has been operating on the Polish market since 1993. Falck is one of the major healthcare operators in Poland providing medical care for individual patients, companies and public institutions. Falck Medical Centers offer a wide range of services, including: primary and specialist consultations, laboratory and imaging diagnostics tests, dental services and rehabilitation treatments. The company is widely known on the market for perfectly organized occupational medicine services and profiled preventive programs as well as a well-developed offer of medical products for individual patients. Falck has been ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001 certified since 2010, as a documentation on the high quality standards Falck delivers.

The acquisition of the nationwide chain is significantly developing a range of medical infrastructure of PZU Zdrowie, which has acquired and build medical centers under the own brand for several years.

The acquisition of Falck Medical Centers is the biggest acquisition project of PZU Zdrowie. As a result of rapidly growing number of customers using healthcare within the PZU, this form of extension of our chain was essential. We have chosen an entity with good reputation, multiannual experience in both individual client and corporate client service. Due to engaging additional 32 facilities to the chain of PZU Zdrowie, we will be able to guarantee access to the medical care for ones living in large, medium and small sized localities says Julita Czyżewska, The President of PZU Zdrowie.

For existing patients of Falck Medical Centers, the change will not result in any additional formalities.

Because of the high quality of the service, Falck has been a significant partner of PZU Zdrowie in servicing patients covered by  the PZU insurance. Therefore, I believe that as a result of this transaction, we will be even closer to our patients and we will be able to use an experience of acquired staff in developing our services, especially in areas where Falck is specialized – explains Piotr Lizukow, Member of the Management Board of PZU Zdrowie who supervises the transaction.

We are pleased, that we have found a highly capable buyer, who will continue developing the clinics in the future. We have already partnered with PZU Insurance up until now by treating some of their customers. Falck remains committed to our remaining business in Poland and will continue to provide ambulance and patient transportation services, says Tor Lønnum, Group CFO at Falck.
